Frame repair, a remade engine-bay harness, ignition, EFI, and climate control work on an orange 1968 Camaro SS with a 496 big block.
Classic Camaros look great from twenty feet. The real job is what happens up close: rust that has to be cut out, not covered, and fifty-year-old wiring that has been spliced by everyone who ever owned the car.
This orange 1968 Camaro SS runs a 496 big block on Holley EFI, and it has been through my shop more than once. The first visit was underneath: the front frame mounts had rotted, so I fabricated reinforcement plates and welded them in, and tied the chassis together with Hotchkis subframe connectors.
It came back from June into August 2022 for the wiring. The aftermarket harness had been installed badly, so I remade the front engine-bay harness with weather-sealed connectors, fixed the fuel pump relay ground, covered the fuel pump switch, and sealed up the door popper switch. The MSD coil moved to the firewall with a noise capacitor, and it got new plug wires with heat sleeves and fresh NGK plugs. I diagnosed the EFI and added a Holley wideband, put a new Vintage Air control module and temp probe in the climate control, made custom heater hoses and a heater valve bracket, fixed the ducting, and sealed the cowl. The water pump got resealed, the fan was rewired, and I went through the lighting one socket at a time and through-bolted the turn signal housings. The harness was laid out in the bay and routed before anything got tied down, so the next person who has to follow it can.
